Dr. Colin Rees, Key Advisor
Professor Colin Rees is one of the UK’s leading experts in endoscopy, and is as a professor at Durham University.
Professor Rees is the Vice President of British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG), chairing UK BSG endoscopy. He also chairs European and UK Endoscopy Research. He is a member of UK National Cancer Research Institute CRC Screening and Prevention subgroup and English Bowel Cancer Screening Programme National Research committee, Evaluation committee and chairs the Patient Experience Committees. He has delivered to many multi-centre trials as chief investigator (CI) and published extensively on CRC prevention and screening. He was awarded BSG’s highest endoscopy research prize (Hopkins) in 2015. He was CI for DISCARD 2 (Research network trial of the year 2014/15, 1700 patients) and ADENOMA (1800 patients). He was awarded the national Royal College of Physicians /National Institute for Health Research consultant prize for research in 2015. He led his team’s application for UK national GI team award 2016. His research team have been shortlisted for the Health Service Journal research team of the year 2016 (UKS premier healthcare awards). He established one of the UKs most effective clinical research networks (Northern Region Endoscopy Group), has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers in the last 5 years and been awarded/co-awarded £2.5M grants.
